markloranger.com is alive!!!
This is a blog about running, written by a dude who doesn’t particularly enjoy the activity. Why write about it? Relentless self promotion, of course. I plan to raise a hell of a lot of money, and if I engage you in the process you’re more likely to donate. Transparency is key.
In all seriousness, I’ve been given the incredible opportunity to run the Boston Marathon in support of cancer research at Dana Farber. Here’s an excerpt from my acceptance email:
———————————————————————————————————————-Greetings, Mark -
It’s truly a pleasure to welcome you to the DFMC team in the 114th Boston Marathon on April 19, 2010, with an invitational entry from Dana-Farber. Your enthusiastic commitment to DFMC, the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute are vital to the DFMC team’s efforts.
We applaud your personal fundraising goal of $10,000 for the Barr Program in honor of your mother. This year, we aim to continue to “Raise the Barr” by achieving an average of $8,000 per team member and providing $4.4 million for the Barr Investigators. With your dedicated participation and the generous support of your extensive professional and personal communities, we know the team can do it!

So there you have it. On the exact one year anniversary of my Mom’s passing, I’ll be running the marathon in her memory. And I’ll be running it to raise money for the world’s leaders in innovative and revolutionary cancer research. Quite an honor.
Much more to come in the next few weeks, including a more detailed explanation of the DFMC and other thoughts on this adventure. One request - help me name this blog. Please email suggestions (email link above right) and I’ll pick a few to be voted on. Power to the people.
